Data corruption is the damage of info due to various hardware or software problems. Once a file is damaged, it will no longer work properly, so an app will not start or shall give errors, a text file shall be partially or fully unreadable, an archive will be impossible to open and then unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of information getting harmed without any identification by the system or an admin, which makes it a significant problem for website hosting servers as failures are more likely to happen on larger hard drives where large volumes of info are placed. In case a drive is part of a RAID and the info on it is duplicated on other drives for redundancy, it's likely that the damaged file will be treated as a healthy one and it will be duplicated on all of the drives, making the harm permanent. Lots of the file systems which run on web servers these days often are not able to identify corrupted files right away or they need time-consuming system checks during which the server isn't operational.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting
We warrant the integrity of the information uploaded in each cloud hosting account that is generated on our cloud platform since we employ the advanced ZFS file system. The latter is the only one which was designed to avert silent data corruption using a unique checksum for every single file. We shall store your information on multiple NVMe drives which work in a RAID, so the exact same files will be available on several places concurrently. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all the files on all the drives in real time and if the checksum of any file differs from what it should be, the file system swaps that file with a healthy version from another drive from the RAID. There's no other file system which uses checksums, so it's easy for data to get silently damaged and the bad file to be replicated on all drives with time, but since that can never happen on a server using ZFS, you won't have to worry about the integrity of your info.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you obtain one of our semi-dedicated server packages, you won't need to be concerned about silent file corruption because we use ZFS - an advanced file system that checks all files in real time. Each time you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between a number of NVMe drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take control. ZFS compares the checksum of all copies on the different drives and when it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from a different drive. This is done right away, so there will be no threat for any part of your content at any time. In contrast, other file systems carry out checks only after a system malfunction, but since they do not use anything similar to the checksums that ZFS uses, they are unable to detect silently corrupted files, so a bad copy can be replicated on the remaining drives as well and you could lose important information. Since this isn't the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each and every file you upload no matter what.
