A password-protected directory or area is a folder that can be accessed only if a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people could observe its content. This function may be used for the main folder of a certain website or only for a certain subfolder based upon your preferences. As an illustration, if you are creating a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it before it's ready, you may want to limit the access to it completely, while if you would like only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the other parts of the website may be seen by everyone. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in case the login details the visitor enters are not accurate. Even a direct link to a file won't work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take no more than a few clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites inside a cloud hosting account with us. You won't have to do anything complicated - you'll have to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be protected, and then to type in the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to create several different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this function is enabled. If you wish to disable the security feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP where you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to secure any content which you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is a part of, so you will not have to write any code at any time. You will only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains that you have in the hosting account and to choose which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type in the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be all set. The protection will be activated immediately, so anybody who tries to access the recently protected folder shall have to type in the accurate login information. If various people have to be able to access the same content, you can create a separate username for each.
