SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and conduct different tasks via a command line. The protocol is popular with many skilled users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for lots of things based on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the server allows for it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for just about anything - you could install software or restart certain services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that enable you to employ the protocol if your PC is running a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If the cloud hosting plan that you’ve selected through the signup procedure provides SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this feature with simply a mouse click from your Hepsia Control Panel. If you have selected a different plan, the SSH access function could be added via the Upgrades menu and it will become available right away. All the info that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to change it whenever you want. All the commands which are permitted are listed in the Help articles which we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax which you have to use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you are able to include it through the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with only one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you can easily type the password that you'd like to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you could also change it as often as you need. The full list of the commands that can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this type of connections.
